Harbinger of Books

If you have not read The Pirate Next Door, book one in the series I suggest you start with that one.

James an American Pirate Hunter is on a mission to kill the pirate who murdered his brother and his family. James has been searching high and low for the infamous Black Jack Mallory. It would be safe to say that James has spent so much time in hate and revenge he has forgotten how to live. Enter Diana, James first meets Diana when he kidnaps her for information, but they both get more than they bargained for. Diana is a passionate woman who has never had the opportunity to express her passion and lives in a world of guilt. Her husband has had their marriage annulled because he thinks she cheated on him and he blames her for their child being deaf. Diana is avoiding civilized England by living on a private island with her father when one day James is washed up on the beach after nearly dying in a sinking boat.

What I love about Ms. Ashley's writing is that people are not perfect, it is hard to let go of who you are to be come who you want to be especially when your life has been full or guilt and/ or shame. Be advised the first book was lighthearted. This one is dark and twisted at times, there is defiantly a significant dominance thing going on. The writing was great and the plot kept pace very well.

The reason why I knocked off a star was this inconsistency I could not help but to feel between The Pirate Next Door and this one. I really liked Alexandra in the first book and I thought the relationship between her and James was cute and more likely a a jab at Greyson in this book my perspective was changed. Also Greyson kept ogling Diana and for me it seemed more like he wanted her and that belittled Greyson. Last but not least was the end I really wanted to see how James settled in with the new baby and Isabeau
