Summoning the Night picks up shortly after Kindling Moon. Cady has settled into a routine with Lon and Jupe, but the peace is not to last long. Children of the Hellfire Club have been taken hostage just as they were thirty years ago and Ambrose Dare has told Arcadia and Lon to investigate. Thirty years ago the kids were never found and so Cady and Lon are on a mission to find them before Halloween.
It has been a long time since I read Kindling Moon and some of the events were a bit fuzzy like I could not really follow why Dare wanted only Lon and Cady to investigate. Having said that this made the overall plot a bit more of a challenge …for example I could not really understand why Cady would make deals with people like Hajo and Dare really. It was also annoying in the beginning of the book Cady did not want to keep any secrets from Lon but then she fails to tell him that Dare threatens her. It was a little hokey then again maybe it is setting the stage for the next one.
Outside of my issues around the plot I love characters, especially Lon and Jupe. I even liked the new additions Bob and Hajo, I am hoping that he will become part of their little crew. Back to Lon and Cady I just love their relationship, she has a lot of fears but they are working through them together and that is a very nice change in this genre. I love the humor that Jupe brings and how they are bonding as a family, really really hoping it does not change.
Overall the plot was a bit weak but she more than makes up for it with the great characters and the world. Looking forward to the next one.
