Well it is the end of the Sookie Stackhouse series and you know I am rather glad.
In Dead Ever After begins shortly after the last book, when Sookie used the cluviel dorto save Sam’s life and in the process looses Eric. Then Sookie is accused of murder and her friends have a chance to come to her rescue.
To be fair the plot in this book was so much better than the last three but in comparison to the overall series it still falls short. I did enjoy the mystery but as you get into the second half of the book it kind of gets a little convoluted. for example is Cluade supposed to be the devil and how does that make sense?? Why does Carmichael need a wish when the devil owes him? Why is there a devil in this book?? Why would Claude be left behind only to haunt Sookie? Sure her grandfather knew better? Why is Sam MIA most of the book because of some BS promise?
In the end was it really a surprise who Sookie ends up with? I mean she likes to tan, eat and wants a baby. Now had it been Remy I would have been stunned. So yeah whatever there. The thing is I really wanted Sookie to be in love at the end and she just was not…I guess the point was for her to be on her own two feet. Another high point is the characters who have all needed her are now trying to help her so that was nice.
What kind of sucked was the characters. Let’s start with Jason this book would have been a perfect opportunity to see Jason and Sookie fall back in to old routines and find some balance. Instead it is all about the wedding as he plays taxi, NICE. Then there is Quinn why is back I am not quite sure but it is so awesome how great he is. I guess we do have good balance with Bill. But really two hundred pages before we see Pam that rather sucked. Now for the big suck was Eric. Eric has been my favorite vamp since the beginning of the series but clearly CH hates him because the character he is now I do not know him. Never understood why she put them together, I would have been happy with the constant flirting and wondering if. It was not a loss for me because their relationship in the past few books seemed well dumb.
In the end it is the end of a series, by CH standards rather old CH standards it is not good but at the same time I did not think it was a disaster. Honestly though I am glad it is done, to many characters have changed for no reason and well no point in complaining because it is over.
