Angelology - Danielle Trussoni Angelology is a fantasy book. Nephilim are the children of the watchers (angels) and human woman. For centuries the Nephilim believe themselves to be superior and rule humanity according to their whims. Angelologists are those who study the angels and are trying to free humanity from the Nephilim's grasp. Our story opens with Sister Evangeline who is going about her daily duties when a request comes in from a art historian, Verlaine, with a request to view the convent's library. In a matter of hours (literally I think the book spans over about three days) Verlaine and Evangeline's lives are no longer their own.

This story weaves between the history of the angelogists and current day. The beginning is quite slow honestly it did not hold together for me but it had me curious to see exactly how these three lives would intersect. The overall plot of the book is quite good and I liked how the author intertwines it with both mythical lore and religion.

The challenge in this book for me begins I think with the narrator. Ms Trussoni chose a omniscient narrator and as such you tend to get a lot of details. Which would not be a bad thing but the details were not used to connect me to the situation. For example it took a me almost a third of the book to figure out the Nephilim are not widely known and engelogists are a secret group. At the end of the book the main character Evangeline is still a mystery I have no idea of her motivations. Even still in the first two thirds of the book it is annoying but fine. Having said that as we enter into the last third it starts to fall apart. The scavenger hunt was quite honestly anti-climatic and some things just do not make sense...nephilim are secret yet they flash themselves in front of humans who do nothing , while one person is being murdered the other just stand around and let the other guy get away....then we get a super hero...uggg. This is just my opinion but I think if the story had been told from the future by Evangeline or Valerine it would have been a stronger book.

Over all the book is good. It just gets tedious at times and between the slow start and the wacky ending I could not give it five stars. Clearly this is a series read.

3 1/2 stars
