The Bride and the Beast - Teresa Medeiros As you can guess this story is based off of beauty and beast.

Life in Ballybliss has fallen on hard times. Fifteen years ago the laird and his family were murdered by Englishmen and nothing has really been right since then. Gwendolyn is a young woman who is trying to live by her virtue and take care of her father. All of her life she has been subject to ridicule because she is overweight. Sadly Gwen is one of the few people who has common sense and is also literate. Her brains are what take her into harms way when she must read a letter of demands from the "Dragon". Of course Gwen knows there is no such thing as dragons but her fellow man does not realize it. The demands are also quite high and the village is looking for a scapegoat so they offer up the only virgin around and that is guess who Gwendolyn.

When Gwendolyn comes face to face with the dragon she finds herself confused by the man who hides in the shadows. The Dragon himself too finds himself confused after he receives his unwelcome visitor. He treats Gwendolyn very well and does not care for how the people of the village have been treating her at all. But both Gwen and the Dragon have secrets and scars the question is can they learn to see the best of themselves?

This was a really great tale I totally enjoyed it. The hero and heroine are quite enchanting I love the sarcasm - it was not hostile or hoity it is more of a banter. You cannot help but to like the two of them because they are both charming, highly intelligent and witty. There is also sufficient intrigue to keep the book interesting not to mention the simple minded villagers keep it all very light and lively.

Totally a fun book!
