Tamsin is a seventeen year old who comes from a long line of Talented witches and at her birth it is proclaimed that she will be among the most powerful. But by the age of 8 when her power failed to show up Tamsin starts to feel like an outcast and a failure.
Tamsin goes to boarding school in the city but every other weekend she has to work in her grandmother's shop. One day when she is about to close the store Tamsin is a mysterious man needing her sister's help in "locating" a family heirloom that was lost in the 1800s. For whatever reason this time Tamsin wants to be the one to find the object so she pretends to be her sister, and attempts to find the heirloom thus proving to both herself and her family that she is not just ordinary. Instead she stumbles into danger because her family has hidden secrets but along the way she learns who she is.
The author has a great talent for story telling, there is not a lot of action but they story moves along quite nicely without feeling slow and sluggish. I was drawn in right away and it is a short easy read. I like the characters and I like that Tamsin is relatable. We all feel like an outcast and her reactions could be the reactions of anyone but instead of sulking and whining she makes wise decisions. If you are looking for romance I did not see it here but I did see a girl and a boy who used to be friends begin growing closer to each other.
