This is the third book in the Maiden Lane series. If you have not already started this series I would not suggest you begin here.
This is the story of Silence and Mickey. The last time we left them Mickey had shamed Silence and ruined her reputation. However despite the encounter there seems to be an odd attraction between the two. Silence is a woman who has been sheltered and always did the right thing. Mickey is a pirate, literally, he raids ships, steals from people and kills them. Mickey's past has caught up with him and his child is in danger so he steals his kid from the orphanage where he had her in hiding and in the process manipulates Silence into staying with him.
As previous reviewers have said the book is really about Mickey evolving but he does it in a way that he really does not change. I liked the book I though Silence was rather interesting because she wanted to be an equal partner which I think was actually crap she just wanted to know she mattered.
In the end I thought the book was good but not gripping, I liked Mickey and I like that he did not really change. I still had a hard time understanding why Silence was so drawn to him. Plus I actually found myself more interesting in the side characters. Like what is going on with the Ghost, and I thought I knew who he was but it is awesome not that I am sure. Then there is the brother Aso I think is his name I like him what does he do and where did he go (I hope he gets a story) I also think I wanted more between Mickey and Mary.
