One day on a snow road the world of Miss Francess Allard and Viscount Lucius Marshal Sinclair collided. I mean that literally, so they end up spending a tranquil two days at a cozy inn and what could have been the end of a story is only the beginning.
Lucius has been a bachelor for years but his grandfather is dying and now is the time for him to find a wife and get on with becoming an Earl. He has been well matched with a woman named Portia but that is before he meets Francess. Francess is a school teacher who lives in Bath is perfectly content with her lot in life. She has found a balance or peace in solitude and feels useful, but now that she has met Lucius she has found herself wanting.
The story is well written but the ending which revealed the big secret was a bit anti-climatic. Then the whole be with me, marry me, was a bit off especially for a woman who was a virgin and lost it in a night of passion, which honestly did not feel all that passionate. On top of it a woman who is planning to become an Earl’s wife also has plans to be a singer…in Regency England even to me that sounds a bit far fetched, a mistress sure but a wife? I have never read a book by Ms. Balogh I think I will try again, this one just did not work out for me.
