Drink Deep not sure where to begin, I guess I will start with the story line, something is wrong in Chicago, the lake has turned black, the sky is red and then it all goes back to normal but no one know why. The humans have turned against the vampires and think they are the cause. Then when it looks like it is all clear there is an earthquake. Merit teams up with her pals to find out why.
So the first 3/4ths of the book just drags on, to the point I put it down for about a month. When I finally came back to it I was a bit annoyed there was just not enough action to keep me interested. Then when you get to the end it seems to move real fast and it feels rushed and sloppy. A rather big issue with me was that the story starts two months after Hard Bitten ends which means we never see the house in mourning nor Merit so it feels like everything is business as usual. That gave the book a rather odd feel.
The rest of my comments are spoilers so…
-I have never been a fan of Mallory and I have often wondered why she exists as a character because in my opinion she does not add to the overall story line except to cause Merit angst. Regardless in this book she become evil without any warning and I am like really, how does this even make sense.
-Which takes me to my next point how Ethan comes back, I am a huge Ethan fan and I did not like the fact that she killed him off but I was ok with it. I was thinking Merit would have to grow and move on or maybe it had to do with the prophecy. None of that happened it was all silly. Perhaps in the next book there will be something but it seems to me Ethan’s death and return from it was just nonsense. Now he could potentially be controlled by Mallory oh come on.
-Then there is Jonah, he is like a step child, why make him a love interest? I would have rather had him be like a brother figure which is what Merit needs a real friend she has been manipulated most of her life.
-Then her dad really we have one scene that was just dumb
-Now I did like the Frank and GP story line but the resolution was to much to little I mean why didn’t Cadogan House fight back before like with the who Sunlight think and side note did it seem odd to anyone else Merit spent so much time away from the house? I mean I thought she would have had responsibilities.
Over all the story was just blah. I missed the shifters and I wanted to see more of the nymphs and find some conclusion from Hard Bitten. Personally it feel short in a big way. Oh well the next one will come from the library.
