This story has a great premise and world building. I liked the idea of a Native American stormwalker. I also think this is a good start to the series, great characters, and the writing was good as well.
The problem for me is subplots are everywhere. For example Janet is working on a missing persons case which takes her to AZ and while she is there she decides to put down roots and build a hotel...um ok, next up is the city rests on the vortex where her evil mother tries for world domination and of course the heroine needs to stop her...um ok, next up her ex-boyfriend who she has not seen in 5 years just randomly comes to save the day, did I mention she know nothing about her ex-boyfriend not even his last name??....anyway that is fine too...but on top of that Janet has paternal family issues and for me there was to much going on.
Regardless I would give the book 3.5 stars, again I think the writing was really good and she tried to pull all the subplots together in the story for me it just did not work well. I think this maybe first book syndrome and I will be sure to check out the next one in the series.
