Review for Return of the Rogue

Return of the Rogue - Donna Fletcher

Honora lives her life walking on a tight rope because her step-father, Calum,  is an abusive man who beats her regularly. She copes by trying to always be agreeable and kind so no one has reason to be upset with her. For Cavan Sinclare this makes her an unworthy match – which is problematic for Calum as he wants his step-daughter to marry the next laird. Fortune smiles down on Calum when Cavan is taken prisoner and presumed dead. So Calum tries his hand again at marrying Honora to the next son Artair who does agree to marry Honora. Honora is so happy she is marrying a gentle man and getting away from her step-father in the same stroke. Well sadly life rarely goes as planned especially in chapter one…Cavan has escaped and now he is forced to marry the timid mouse he originally rejected and poor Honora has another brute to contend with.

This is an easy read. Most of the story really is about Honora and Cavan figuring out how to battle their internal demons which brings them closer together than either ever imagined. There is a bigger plot around the missing brother and a quest to find him. There is very little history in this one and quite often the phrases seem more American than Scottish. I am not sure why they called this book Return of the Rogue it should have been called Love and Self-Condemnation lol

Really it is a cute book I am planning to read the next one
