Review for A Kiss Midwinter

A Kiss for Midwinter - Courtney Milan

This was a tear jerker and wonderful tale that is not at all fair.

Ok so the story starts out with Lydia as a young teenage women who is pregnant and been abandoned… basically told she is worthless with no moral fiber by her physician. Jonas is witnessing this situation as an apprentice for a physician, but he must keep quite about the comments because Jonas wants to take over the physicians practice after her completes medical school. Several years later Jonas has never forgotten Lydia and in many ways she haunts him. When they meet face to face Jonas does not recognize her but Lydia recognizes him and all of the anger and contempt she has in her heart she feeds to Jonas.

I liked Jonas he is honest, weird and very sarcastic. It was refreshing to watch him try and court Lydia he really is not smooth at all – so at times it was hard to read.  I had many moments where I yelled at the book no Jonas don’t say that for goodness sake! I like that neither of them really knew what they were doing and I must admit they Lydia finally learns to manage her anger and pain with Jonas was sweet.

This one is felt a bit more like a realistic romance with the horrifying reminder of what people used to call medicine. I liked the roles of both Lydia and Jonas’s fathers. Excellent short story
